May 2025 marked a proud milestone for Mrs. Monaz Kathawala, CEO and Founder of OSMOSIS,
who represented India at the CIF Finland International Professional Exchange Program (IPEP). The
month-long exchange brought together professionals from across the world to observe and
understand Finland’s unique approaches to education, social welfare, and community care.
Carrying with her the Indian philosophy of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” – the world is one family,
Mrs. Kathawala shared India’s culture of empathy and interdependence with an international
audience. This idea of collective responsibility found a strong connection with Finland’s people-
centered systems.
During the program, she visited inclusive schools, therapy centers, welfare organizations, and
policy institutions, gaining firsthand experience of how Finland supports its citizens. Highlights
included a visit to Käpylä School, where children of all abilities learn together, and the Oodi Central
Library, the third largest in the world, which serves as a free innovation hub for all Finnish citizens.
One of the most memorable encounters was meeting Ms. Aulikki Kananoja, a 72-year-old senior
social worker, who endorsed the importance of not labelling children and promoting
inclusivity—values deeply shared across both cultures.
The program also showcased Finland’s commitment to mental health services, gender-responsive
NGOs, and creative therapies like peace education through drama and music therapy.
Reflecting on the experience, Mrs. Kathawala shared:
“This journey was not only about learning new systems, but also about exchanging values. I return
with ideas that can be adapted in India—early child support, inclusive education, transparent
governance, and stronger investment in mental health. Most importantly, I return with hope.”
The exchange highlighted how cross-cultural learning can inspire new practices back home. It
reinforced the belief that kindness, empathy, and collaboration can help communities everywhere
grow stronger.
